Adelaide to Lobethal
Adelaide to Lobethal40km
This 40KM ride kick offs at Hindmarsh Square with check-in briefining, and luggage loading. A tough climb up Gorge Road and Stone Hut Rd tests the legs before rolling forest tracks lead to Fox Creek Bike Park. Finish at Lobethal Football Club for lunch and your first campsite, with time to explore town and enjoy the Bierhaus. This route is 40KM.
Lobethal to Tanunda
Lobethal to Tanunda75km
A gentle 75KM ride that travels through Birdwood and Mount Crawford Forest before descending into the Barossa Valley. Lunch at Rowland Flat, then a thrilling descent of Steingarten Hill. Camp at Chateau Tanunda with wine tasting and a quirky "black tie dinner".
Day 3
Day 3Tanunda to Riverton
A 78KM ride that heads north past Nuriootpa into Kapunda, rich in mining history and heritage trails. Single-track sections and ridge rides add variety before finishing at Riverton Caravan Park. Explore the town's railway station and galleries.
Day 4
Day 4Riverton to Burra
This 87KM ride has an option to take the Rattler Rail Trail to Auburn, then cruise the Riesling Trail through Clare Valley vineyards. Landscapes shift dramatically as you cross Goyder's Line into arid country. Overnight at Burra Football Club, a historic copper mining town.
Day 5
Day 5Rest Day in Burra
Relax, explore cafes, museums, and heritage sites with the Burra Historic Passport. Mini Mawson riders depart, new ones arrive. Evening meal together with stories of the journey so far.
Day 6
Day 6Burra to Hallett
On this 85KM ride, you will pass the famous Midnight Oil ruin and ride through merino grazing lands. Scenic climbs and descents lead to Dares Hill and the restored Wilkins cottage. Camp at Hallett oval with dinner at the town hall.
Day 7
Day 7Hallett to Spalding
A short but scenic 46KM ride passes the Hallett windfarm turbines. Watch out for calthrop thorns along the Spalding and Bundaleer Channels. Finish at Spalding Oval with time to enjoy the local pub.
Day 8
Day 8Spalding to Laura
This 83KM ride goes past Bundaleer Reservoir and through the Bundaleer Forest, Australia's first plantation forest. Arrive in Laura, home of CJ Dennis and Golden North ice cream. Camp at the Laura Football Oval
Day 9
Day 9Laura to Melrose
This 57KM single track ride goes through Wirrabara Forest, past Bangor Historic Site and Mount Remarkable winery. A fun descent into Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. Stay at the caravan park with campfires and a village atmosphere.
Day 10
Day 10Rest Day in Melrose
Choose between relaxing, exploring Mount Remarkable National Park, or riding the acclaimed Melrose trail network. Enjoy local pubs, breweries, and cafés. New Mini Mawson riders join for the final leg north.
Day 11
Day 11Melrose to Quorn
A 71KM ride that travels via Wilmington in Beautiful Valley, with options for the rail trail. Lunch in Richman Valley before tackling Richman Gap's rocky descent. Finish at Quorn Oval, a town steeped in railway and WWII history.
Day 12
Day 12Quorn to Hawker
Cross pastoral lands on this 112km challenging pedal that rewards you with views of the southern Flinders. Lunch en route before rolling into Hawker, gateway to the ranges. Explore galleries and historic buildings before camping overnight.
Day 13
Day 13Hawker to Rawnsley Park
Ride deeper into the Flinders Ranges with a 94KM ride through rugged scenery and creek crossings. Arrive at Rawnsley Park Station, a scenic base with views of Wilpena Pound. Enjoy a relaxed evening in this iconic setting.
Day 14
Day 14Rawnsley Park to Wilpena Pound
A shorter but spectacular 26KM ride into Wilpena Pound Resort, nestled in the natural amphitheatre of the Flinders Ranges. Celebrate arriving at one of South Australia’s most famous landmarks.
Day 15
Day 15Rest Day at Wilpena Pound
Take a break or hike into Wilpena Pound for breathtaking views. Options include scenic flights, cultural tours, or simply relaxing at the resort. A chance to recharge before the finale.
Day 16
Day 16Wilpena Pound to Blinman
Final 66KM climb through the ranges to Blinman, the highest town in South Australia. Celebrate completing 900 km with fellow riders before departures. The Outback Odyssey ends, but the memories ride on.
